Mokulito Demonstration with La Maldita Estampa
Join the Maldita Estampa Print Studio & Gallery artists in Barcelona, Spain, for this insightful Mokulito demonstration.
This an interesting fusion that essentially consists of combining two opposing technical procedures, on the one hand, relief engraving (woodcut) and planographic engraving (lithography).
The mixture of graphic media within it makes it possible to produce engraved prints with a high level of fidelity, the wood matrix provides qualities such as texture, and the characteristic grain of this material, to which is added the delicacy of the drawing or the layers of tones in lithography. The printing process does not require conventional lithographic equipment, it is printed on the intaglio press, which allows us to work in large format.

Creating Transparencies for Inkjet Image Transfer with a Press
Join artist and educator Margaret Craig for a demonstration that will showcase a straightforward method for creating transparencies using Yupo, Xerox transparency, or Mylar to produce computer-derived monoprints. We’ll begin by coating the plastic with a mixture of methylcellulose, Gum Arabic, and a touch of soap—common materials found in print studios—and allow it to dry. Next, we’ll run the coated plastic through an inkjet printer to generate an image, which we will then transfer onto printmaking paper using a press. This technique leverages the watercolor properties of inkjet ink to create a digital watercolor monoprint. Additionally, we’ll explore how to manipulate the image with watercolor both before and after printing onto the plastic matrix.
