Each year, SGCI awards two student fellowships; one undergraduate and one graduate. If a nominee is not selected for an SGCI fellowship they can be considered for a Gambin Award or Awagami Paper Award (see individual guidelines).
The SGCI Emerging Printmaker Award annually celebrates an early-career artist whose exceptional talent and promise enrich the world of printmaking, showcasing remarkable creativity in their own artistic endeavors. The SGCI Mid-Career Printmaker Award acknowledges an established artist who has significantly impacted the field, demonstrating excellence in both their creative output and contributions to printmaking. The SGCI Excellence in Teaching Printmaking Award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to teaching in this discipline, coupled with excellence in their own artistic endeavors. Recipients of these awards are prominently featured at the conference, serving as panelists on the SGCI Awards Panel or receiving other honors as deemed appropriate by the host institution

Student Fellowship Award Guidelines
Student Fellowship recipients will be awarded a fellowship to produce a body of work: one undergraduate of $500 and one graduate award of $1000. At the conclusion of the fellowship, recipients will need to provide the SGCI Archives with digital documentation of the work produced under the auspices of this fellowship.
Each institution may nominate 1 undergraduate and 1 graduate student. Students may self-nominate, but must have a faculty sponsor who will submit a letter of support, and must be enrolled at the time of application. Applicants and the faculty sponsor must be SGCI members in good standing.
Fellowship recipients will be awarded their fellowship during the SGCI Awards Ceremony. Award recipients will be afforded all possible opportunities to be listed in conference/council publications and on the website. At the conclusion of the fellowship year, recipients will need to provide the SGCI Archives with digital documentation of the work produced under the auspices of this fellowship. SGC International will also make every effort to present fellowship recipients’ work at the following year’s conference, however this may not always be possible and will depend upon the resources available to the conference planners in any particular year.

Application Considerations:
- 50% portfolio – innovative use of print media, diverse techniques, strong visual and conceptual component
- 20% CV – strong record of professional experience appropriate to career level, including exhibitions and/or residencies, awards, presentations etc.
- 15% diversity – priority given to supporting our BIPOC, LGBTQ+, disabled, low-income and other underrepresented members
- 15% service to SGCI – active membership, conference attendance, volunteerism

SGCI Emerging Printmaker Award Guidelines
The SGCI Emerging Printmaker Award is given annually to an early-career artist who exhibits outstanding promise in their contribution to the field of printmaking with demonstrated excellence in their own creative work. Nominations are solicited from the SGCI membership and accepted by the SGCI Awards Committee. The SGCI Awards Committee selects three finalists with a final vote from the SGCI membership. The recipient is invited to attend the annual conference and be presented with the award at the banquet ceremony. The recipient is featured at the conference as a panelist on the SGCI Awards Panel or is otherwise honored, as the host institution desires.

Not Eligible:
Current SGCI board members, awards committee members or employees, or previous recipients of the SGCI Emerging Printmaker Award
Application Considerations:

SGCI Mid-Career Printmaker Award Guidelines
The SGCI Mid-Career Printmaker Award is given annually to a mid-career artist who has made an outstanding contribution to the field of printmaking with demonstrated excellence in their own creative work. Nominations are solicited from the SGCI membership and accepted by the SGCI Awards Committee. The SGCI Awards Committee selects three finalists with a final vote from the SGCI membership. The recipient is invited to attend the annual conference and be presented with the award at the banquet ceremony. The recipient is featured at the conference and presents a lecture or is otherwise honored, as the host institution desires.
Eligible:
SGCI members in good standing who are mid-career artists
Not Eligible:
Current SGCI board members, awards committee members or employees, or previous recipients of the SGCI Mid-Career Printmaker Award
Application Considerations:

Excellence in Teaching Printmaking Award Guidelines
The SGCI Excellence in Teaching Printmaking Award is awarded to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to teaching printmaking and has demonstrated excellence in their own creative work. All qualified nominees will be considered regardless of academic rank, grade level, educational setting or institutional affiliation. Nominations are solicited from the SGCI membership and accepted by the SGCI Awards Committee. The SGCI Awards Committee selects three finalists with a final vote from the SGCI membership. The recipient is featured at the conference as a panelist on the SGCI Awards Panel or is otherwise honored, as the host institution desires. The SGCI Excellence in Teaching Printmaking Award is presented at the banquet ceremony with a plaque inscribed with the name of the recipient, the award, and organization’s name.

Not Eligible:
Current SGCI board members, awards committee members or employees, or previous recipients of the SGCI Mid-Career Printmaker Award
Application Considerations
25% teaching portfolio – innovative use of print media (including book arts and papermaking), diverse techniques, strong visual and conceptual component
25% artistic portfolio – innovative use of print media, diverse techniques, strong visual and conceptual component
20% CV – strong record of professional experience appropriate to career level, including exhibitions and/or residencies, awards, presentations etc.
15% diversity – supporting our BIPOC, LGBTQ+, disabled, veteran, low-income and other underrepresented members
15% service to SGCI – active membership, conference attendance and/or volunteerism
This award and application cycle is being reinstated next year, when we will have two recipients.

The Lifetime Achievement in
Printmaking Award
The Lifetime Achievement in Printmaking Award is given annually to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the professional development of printmaking as a fine art. This is the only SGCI award that may be given posthumously. Nominations are solicited from the conference host institution only and accepted by the SGCI Awards Committee.

SPONSORED AWARDS
Gamblin Awards
This award is presented annually to an outstanding student or students who demonstrate an excellence in printmaking.
Award Guidelines
This award is presented annually to:
- One graduate student SGCI member and
- One undergraduate student SGCI member
- One emerging artist SGCI member
This award is open to:
- Artists who use oil-based ink
- Artists who reside in the continental US or Puerto Rico
These awards are given to runners up in the Student Awards and the Emerging Printmaker Awards.
Awagami Paper Award
This award is presented annually to an outstanding student who best demonstrates the use of paper as an integral part of their printed works. The award of 100 sheets of ‘Awagami Editioning’ washi papers will be shipped directly to the winning student by Awagami Papermill in Japan.
Award Guidelines
This award is given to the runner up in the Student Award, undergraduate level.
